ED KRESSY, Through the course of his 33 years as a San Franciscan, struggled with severe addiction and mental health challenges (he is diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder). Ed experienced homelessness, psychosis, and was arrested and detained numerous times. He was incarcerated in SF county jail and the SF General psychiatric ward. Ed became dependent upon City services and nonprofits and spent six years living in North Beach single-room occupancy hotels.

 

In recovery since 2007, Ed published a book about addiction and recovery in San Francisco, as well as recovery-themed articles in the San Francisco Chronicle and the Washington Post. He volunteers extensively: in service to the incarcerated population, and helping law enforcement better serve communities affected by addiction. Ed holds a BA in Psychology from the University of San Francisco.
